Production in Consideration of the Environment

We are working in various ways to reduce environmental impact not only with respect to the motor parts themselves, but also for chemicals used in production, power used to drive production equipment and machinery, and the working environments of our employees.

Efforts in Introduction of Production Equipment

Mabuchi group is also constantly working on environmentally friendly activities in the production process. For example, at the time of producing facility production, we conduct the following multifaceted environmental impact assessments and make plans for introducing production facility equipment:

Existence of banned substances
Usage volume of power, air, water, etc.
Fuel consumption
Emissions of air pollutants, ozone depleting substances and sewage
Vibration and noise level
Waste and hazardous material emissions to which the Industrial Safety and Health Act applies
Whether there is a possibility of toxic substance leakage at the time of equipment disposal
Presence or absence of instructions / explanation of harmful substance recovery - etc.

By verifying the above, we are working to reduce our environmental impact.

Introduction of Internal Carbon Pricing (ICP) system

The ICP system is a mechanism that encourages companies to address climate change by setting an internal carbon price and converting Greenhouse Gas emissions into costs, thereby creating an economic incentive to reduce emissions. In the future, when planning investments in equipment that emit Greenhouse Gas we will apply the internal carbon price we set and convert it into a hypothetical cost, which we consider as one factor in selecting equipment and vehicles, and investment decisions.

Mabuchi Motor's ICP System

In-house carbon price: 11,000 yen/t-CO2*
*Internal exchange rates are used for conversion at overseas bases.
We will review the price as appropriate in consideration of price fluctuations of emission credits, etc.
Scope of the program: Investments in facilities that emit CO2
Application method: CO2 emissions are converted into costs by applying an internal carbon price, and considered as one of the factors in selecting equipment and vehicles, and the making of investment decisions.

Specific examples of inprovements in environmentally friendly production process

The cleaning solution used in the cleaning process for motor parts was changed from alkaline detergent to in-house alkaline electrolyzed water. The alkaline detergent used in the past contained surfactants and chemical synthetics, but this has been replaced with alkaline electrolyzed water, which is safer and mainly composed of water. Furthermore, the introduction of filtration equipment and recycling of the cleaning solution has greatly reduced the amount of final effluent, and the effluent itself can be purified to a safe level that does not contain nitrogen or phosphorus. In addition, improvements in production facilities and inspection processes have made it possible to eliminate the need for cleaning of some motor parts. By eliminating the need for washing, we plan to reduce the environmental impact of washing approximately 3 million units in 2022.
In addition, we worked to reduce our environmental impact by incorporating measures for efficient use of energy and resources into the design of our new plants at Mexico Mabuchi and Poland Mabuchi.

Examples of Poland Mabuchi's activities

In order to reduce energy consumption for heating and cooling by efficiently using outside air temperatures in the ventilation units that supply air to the main production area, Poland Mabuchi has introduced a circulating-type ventilation system that operates according to the outside air temperature and the temperature inside the production area, thereby reducing Greenhouse Gas emissions by approximately 414 tons per year.

Efforts to Reduce / Abolish Pollutants and Prevent Pollution

We thoroughly manage chemical substances to prevent environmental pollution, grasp the usage status, reduce or abolish the use of harmful chemical substances, and actively work to prevent pollution.
We have introduced a dedicated vehicle for transporting chemical substances. This dedicated vehicle is equipped with measures such as liquid leakage prevention for the purpose of minimizing environmental pollution in an emergency. In addition, the floor of the warehouse where chemical substances are stored is coated with a special coating to prevent the infiltration of liquid in the unlikely event of a liquid leak and to prevent soil and water quality from being polluted.
In addition, the R&D department manages the following chemicals used for R&D and testing of products and equipment.

We have established and manage the storage management guidelines for chemicals.
The chemical storage is installed so that it will not fall over due to an earthquake.
A chemical storage manager has been appointed to carry out regular inventory.
Chemical waste liquid is treated according to the manifest system.
